Broken Masterpiece

The design of this coffee table was inspired by nature. I was hiking in the rain forest near Tofino, BC, when I saw the stump of a huge tree which had been cut many years ago. A big crack in the middle had split the stump in two.

Instantly I realized this was an excellent idea for my next coffee table. So I started designing and working on it.

I was very pleased the way it turned out, but when it came time to make the cut I hesitated.

"What a beautiful masterpiece", I thought,  "and now I have to cut  it right through the middle?"

Finally, I had  the courage to start  cutting.

And there it was, on my workbench, in pieces.

But it was still a masterpiece, only now, it became a BROKEN MASTERPIECE.

No matter how hard I tried, I could not come up with a name that would fittingly describe

this lovely bar - coffee table.

Then, a friend of mine from Italy came to visit me in my shop. I wanted to know his opinion about my work, since he was also a furniture maker.

His eyes lit up when he saw the table and he took his time to look at every thing.

"Is mindbogglin" he blurted out. Immediately it hit me. He had given me the perfect name for this lovely table.

This was the name that I had been searching for, for such a long time.

Because it really is, MINDBOGGLIN .
